10:41 pm - Nursery Rhyme
Mom: So are you tired of cake yet, or do you want one?
Me: I still like cake.
Mom: Oh. For some reason, I thought you didn't like cake that much.
Me: No, no, I still like cake. It's pie I don't like. Brian likes pie. It's one of those few things we don't agree on- I figure we'll get divorced over it someday.
Mom: Nah, you won't. What's that rhyme about how opposites attract? Something something, ate no fat, and something no lean...
Me: ... Two steps forward, two steps back, we go together 'cause opposites attract?
Mom: ...
Me: ... You said it rhymed.

2:33 pm - Meme from Kabby~
FIRST: If you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with a new, original question.
SECOND: Tag eight sexy people. Don't refuse to do that like a pansy.

Who sleeps in bed next to you?
A lot of stuffed toys (notably Elliot and Admiral Neckflaps) and pillows and Cupcake Queen, the cat-we've-not-yet-told-Grandma-about.

What did you last eat?
Chicken and dumplings. Mmmmm, good.

What kind of books do you read?
I used to read a lot of those big, thick, high-fantasy books and classic literature. Nowadays, I read a lot of graphic novels and comic books.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
Disney World. I miss that place. :(

What's really creepy?
Mirrors at the ends of hallways. It's so creepy to turn the corner and think you see someone else at the end of the hallway staring at you. D:

Name one odd item within five feet of you.
Only one? I guess the oddest would be my Zant helmet.

What's your current fandom / obsession / addiction?
Damned, drinking chocolate milk, and crime drama.

What did you really want to do today that you didn't?
Get a job. I would really like one of those right about now.

What are you most excited for?
Right now, the improv show on Saturday. After that, who knows? I'm easily excitable and attach myself to upcoming events.

What websites do you always visit when you go online?
My e-mail and LJ, both regular and roleplay. I usually visit kittenbreak.com once or twice a day, too.

What was the last thing you bought?
Food at McDonald's for Ryn, Tony, and myself.

If you could have any pet, what would it be?
A tiger, or a dragon. Or maybe a flying tiger. I could ride him places. :D

Your past life: Tell me about it.
Your favorite show as a child: tell me about it.
I was a huge fan of Inspector Gadget. It was the start of a long-time obsession with crime-drama. I'd so be a detective for a living if I could.

What do you want right this minute, off the top of your head?
An idea of what I'm supposed to be doing with my life.

Where is the place you like to return to in order to calm down / relax / etc.?
My room. I like it here.

What's one thing that terrifies you that nobody else gets?
I'm pretty sure it's the 'mirrors at the ends of hallways' thing. :/

What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
I have a really neat idea for a story about time-travel, but I feel like an idiot even thinking about what inspired it, why I want to write it, and why I've not written any of those other neat stories down yet.

Are there any bits of childhood that you miss?
I miss the wandering imagination of childhood. I miss when people could use their imaginations to dream up whatever they wanted- I mean, I still use mine like there's no tomorrow, but most people are far too 'serious business' to just let it run.

Say something to the person who tagged you.
I always look forward to your posts because you're interesting and all that jazz. ♥

Here's a meme that's floating around my flist that looked like fun. I expect most of these will be fairly easy to guess. :x

1) Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/bands [fannish etc.] that you've had an obsessive fannish love or interest in at some time in your life.
2) Have your f-list guess your favorite character/member from each item.
3) When someone guesses correctly, strike through the item and put the name of your favorite character next to it.

1. Castlevania | Simon Belmont ([info]rynthehylian)
2. Clue | Professor Plum ([info]rynthehylian)
3. The Legend of Zelda | Midna ([info]arwingyoshi)
4. Resident Evil | Billy Coen ([info]rynthehylian)
5. Batman | Batman ([info]rynthehylian)
6. The Wizard of Oz | YES EVERYONE, IT'S THE SCARECROW. SURPRISE!
7. The Discworld Series
8. Pokemon (points for guessing my favorite, I suppose) | Armaldo ([info]rynthehylian)
9. Final Fantasy (yes, all of them) | Adelbert Steiner ([info]rynthehylian)
10. King's Quest
11. Law & Order
12. Suikoden
13. Auugh, I'm running out of stuff to list D: Jim Henson's Storyteller
14. Animal Crossing | Murphy the Bear ([info]rynthehylian)
15. Cowboy Bebop
16. Studio Ghibli films
17. Beauty and the Beast | Gaston ([info]rynthehylian)
18. Harry Potter
19. Star Wars | Han Solo ([info]thebigkaboosh)
20. Star Trek | Jean-Luc Picard ([info]rynthehylian)

Auuuugh so much stuff I need to be doing, and I feel like I'm getting nowhere. I really need a planner of some sort. I had one in school, but now that I'm out of school, that sort of fell through. :/

I really dislike those feelings I get a lot nowadays- I can't find a job doing anything I'd like to do, and I have problems looking for jobs in the first place because I really don't know what I want to do anymore. Five years of college, and I feel like I'm pretty much where I started. I try not to get down so much about it, but it really wears on me. I have a lot of great things going in my life, but I still feel totally useless.

Okay, list for myself of things to do to keep myself busy and that need doing anyway:
-> work on that Guybrush Threepwood costume
-> write up RP stuff for Dofus
-> get back to work on fleecy things
-> finish knitting that thing for that person's special something
-> work on Oktoberfest entry for Damned
-> plan out Dad's Grinch costume, since I'll be working on it after Halloween
-> hug and cuddle Kimba and feel better
    -> design Fifi's new harness
-> also, update your LJ more often so people will think you're alive

Time to run some errands. I need more fabric. D:

4:22 pm - Geordi
One of my gerbils, Geordi (the little black one) passed away today- he'd lost a lot of weight this past week. I'm really crushed about it. He was in his little green house- the one that matches JLP's purple one. It was really heartbreaking to find him, even though we all sort of knew this was coming.

I was going to bury him in a jewelery box I'd found that was about the right size, but I couldn't bear to remove him from his home, so we buried him with it in a box in the backyard. Dad came home after I called him sobbing- he dug the ditch and said a eulogy and prayer. It was really touching.

JLP (my other gerbil) is in mourning as well- he's spent all day in the hole where Geordi's house used to be. I just went to my room a moment ago and found this black cat beanie (one of those Ty ones they gave out at McDonald's back in the day), removed his tags, stuffing, and beans, and stuffed him with some of their nesting. I call him the Scarekitty. Lame, I know. I know it's no Geordi, but maybe it can act as some sort of comfort to JLP- he lost his brother, after all.

I really don't know what else to say. I guess I'm just hurting.

3:57 pm - New Friends + Artwork
Hey there, new people on my flist from [info]damned!

I finally finished that picture of Meirin I've been working on. I had to redo the background- the clouds didn't show up well, so I put them in with acrylic.

Umbrella )

In other news, our guild on Dofus has opened up a role play section of our forums lately, so we've been making reference posts and writing backstories and whatnot for our characters. I had backstories written for three of my characters, but nothing for Wea- on top of that, all my artwork of my characters is so old now, so I decided to do a set of watercolors for them. Here's the three I have so far:

1 )

2 )

3 )

While I'm thinking of cosplays, I'm thinking of doing a cosplay from Return to Oz. Am I the only person who has seen this film? Most people just look at me like I'm insane when I try to describe it. :(

I knew I forgot to post something here: what I've been making! True, you could have clicked on the link I posted a day or so ago and seen them in my Etsy shop, but these pictures are slightly bigger, and I get to talk about them here. :)

Purple Squid Hat )

Snorlax Hat )

Honchkrow Scarf/Hood )

I've got a few more patterns in the works, too. It's nice to feel productive for a change. :D

11:09 pm - Etsy
I've finally put some things in my long-empty Etsy store! I'm so excited I finally finished a few things. I've got a few more patterns I've made that I want to put to good use, so I should have more items appearing there in the next few days.

Please check it out and let me know what you think! ♥ ♥ ♥

In other news, I thought District 9 was pretty rad. I don't remember if I told you folks that or not. ♥

1:55 pm - Movie Quote Meme, from [info]lady_angelina
This looked like fun!

1. Pick 20 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb, and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. No Googling/using IMDb search functions.

1) Well, I hope this experience hasn't put any of you off flying. Statistically speaking, it's still the safest way to travel.

2) I think I'll miss you most of all. | The Wizard of Oz [[info]lady_angelina]

3) Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over. | 2001: A Space Odyssey [[info]oddkitty]

4) I suffer from short-term memory loss. It runs in my family... At least I think it does... hm. Where are they? | Finding Nemo [[info]drazzi]

5) I have always valued my lifelessness.

6) Why should the police come? Nobody's called them. | Clue [[info]blackbird_xiii]

7) Search the skies if you must, Minister, but now I think I'll have a nice cup of tea, or a large brandy. Oh, and executioner, your services are no longer required. Thank you. | Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban [[info]gigs_83]

8) If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious shit. | Back to the Future [[info]drazzi]

9) Facts, not memories. That's how you investigate. I know, it's what I used to do. | Memento [[info]rynthehylian]

10) I think I must have one of those faces you can't help believing.

11) It's not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts getting ideas, and thinking... | Beauty and the Beast [[info]lady_angelina]

12) Ernest Hemingway once wrote, "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for." I agree with the second part.

13) And that was only one of the many occasions on which I met my death, an experience which I don't hesitate strongly to recommend.

14) There's a lotta things about me you don't know anything about, Dottie. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand. | Pee-Wee's Big Adventure [[info]gigs_83]

15) So we can't call Ripley's Believe it or Not, because... they wouldn't believe it.

16) Let your heart guide you. It whispers so listen closely. | The Land Before Time [[info]gigs_83]

17) Are you the Keymaster? | Ghostbusters [[info]gigs_83]

18) It's a funny world we live in. Speaking of which, do you know how I got these scars? | The Dark Knight [[info]drazzi]

19) It's an antique. They don't make 'em like this any more. Sturdy. Heavy. Dull. | Little Shop of Horrors [[info]drazzi]

20) The suspense is terrible... I hope it'll last.

4:29 am - Hi, I'm Kristyn. I cause problems.
I'm apparently really good at making a mess of things. I'm not good at making things better.

Here's a non-specific rundown:

We're doing a group project, and each person who joined the project signed up for a certain aspect of the project to do. It's not really a majorly huge claim or anything- just saying who is doing what so people don't do repeats or can do a variation of the same thing, etc.

Person A is a good friend, and she signed up to build a birdhouse. She'd already started looking at supplies and planning, and was quite excited about this birdhouse. This would be her first time building a birdhouse.

Person B is another member of the project, and someone who used to not get along with Person A, but they've sort of set aside their differences and claimed to have moved on, etc. B said that for this project, they were going to draw a map. Nifty- she's a talented cartographer, and we're glad to have her aboard.

Well, some time passes and people start to get ready to get to work on the project. While we're discussing the project on our forums, B posts that she's not only changed her project to building the birdhouse, but she's also mostly done with it. Along with this post is a note saying that she, "knew A was building the birdhouse, but since A doesn't like me, there's nothing I can do. Oh well. :("

A, who had mostly forgotten about the past issues with B and had agreed to be civil to her during the project, now feels like she shouldn't be a part of the project because it will cause unnecessary friction. She drops out of not only the project, but also the group in its entirety. She doesn't want to say anything to B because she doesn't want to cause even more problems unintentionally.

Knowing that B probably meant the comment in jest and that wounds only fester if untreated, I message B in the hopes of getting to some sort of resolution that results in A coming back, or at least understanding that there was no harm meant. B now feels we're ganging up on her and that she's not wanted in the group. This isn't the first time B has acted like this, so I wasn't surprised by this reaction- still, I hoped to convince her to just drop a note to A saying, "Whoops, my addressing the elephant in the room didn't go so well. My bad. Maybe we could let bygones be bygones and do two differently colored birdhouses?"

It's not the birdhouse that's the problem- it's that someone was hurt and feels chased away, and I don't feel that's something that shouldn't be left hanging over our group's head. Ignoring problems seems to just make them worse, and how can anyone know anything is amiss if nothing is said? Frankly, if I really upset another project member, I'd want to know so I could at least try to do something about it.

I've been trying to convince A to return to the project, or at least the group, but she's still unsure. Now B wants to leave because she feels we don't want her, which I'm not sure how I can express enough that we do want her in our group. If I hadn't messaged B, she wouldn't feel like this, but A would be cheated. I messaged B in the hopes of reaching a resolution, and it backfired as badly or worse as that joke B attempted to make, and I don't even know how to begin to work it out with her.

I feel awful because not only do we not have A in the group, but it's looking like we won't have B either. On top of that, I'm sure I made Person C (who runs the group and is one of my dearest friends)'s group look like they don't want B.

I just don't know how to fix anything. No wonder I shouldn't be allowed to handle breakable things.

I'm so sorry. I don't know what else to say.

2:25 am - Finished Meirin Plush Dolls!
Haha, I finished one of my projects! I've not made much progress on most of my work as of late- I've had to push most things aside and work on my costume for Persacon. I'll take photos of that later. ;P Until then, finished Meirins!

Picture heavy under here! )

Zounds. Ed McMahon a few days ago, then Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson in a single day. These three were really monumental- I am stunned. I'm not sure what to think.

May they find peace wherever they go.

Also, thank you for the kind notes left on my previous post. I'm getting better- it's just that when I get down, I get very, very down. You all are the world to me, and your words really meant a lot. ♥ ♥

1:38 am - Pokemon Art ♥
So here's one of the things I've been working on for a bit. I'll have all of them standing in a line when I use this for my LJ layout (still working on getting that paid time- I'm thinking this will probably go on the Friends Page layout), but here's the bigger art. It's the first time I've tried coloring the line art, like they do in animation. I'm really pleased with the results- it gives the characters a bit of life I've not seen in my artwork before. Let me know your thoughts! :D

Pokemon Art )

Not all of these guys are on my main team, but they are definitely my favorites. They really need to make plush toys of Armaldo and Raticate. :(

4:55 pm - New Laptop and New Love
I saved all money I received from graduation and finally bought a new laptop. My old one is pushing seven- most people are surprised it still runs at all. After a long weekend of drama concerning my new laptop, some incorrect information given to me, and another $50 spent on an external modem for a dial-up connection, I finally have the internet on it. It really is a lovely laptop. Much love to my boyfriend for helping me pick it out. It can even play DOOM 3, which is definitely not as fun as previous DOOMs. ♥ ♥ ♥

I also have another renewed love: role-playing games on LJ. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm back in the RPing game at a new community after a few years of hiatus. It's such a love/hate relationship for me, though. I love being able to write and it's fun to play with other people, but I find myself sitting around and waiting for tags often. :/ Also, the FireFox widget [info]ljlogin is my new best friend. It makes switching journals SO much faster, which is good on dial-up.

Lari, I still miss playing with you.

Aside from that, I've been working on costuming stuff. Pictures when I actually have something to show, I promise. ♥

4:32 pm - Graduated
Finally. I feel a big weight is off my shoulders, but another one appeared- I have absolutely no idea what to do with my degree. Unfortunately, it seems it takes a Masters to do a lot of museum work, and I don't have the drive or finances to return to college at this time. I've got more thoughts on this, but I'm not really sure how to put them into words. Still, it'll be nice to say I have a Bachelor's in Anthropology with a minor in Religion.

Also, more artwork for a Meirin set of icons for whenever I get around to getting a month or so of paid time. I'm working on a matching layout- it's been so long since I coded anything!

More Expressions )

In good news, all this work with expressions has really helped me. It's an area in which I still need a lot of practice.

2:50 am - Roleplay
We had a good Dungeons & Dragons session with a group of friends tonight. It reminded me how much I love roleplaying. <3 Our game play is extremely lax in comparison to the D&D I've played in the past- my DMing is incredulously ridiculous. I really go into it with a very basic plot, and the rest is all improvised; unfortunately, my mind is really random most of the time (I run in Lab Rats mode a lot, I think), so enemies include dinosaur-riding goblins, Elvis impersonators, and the evil 'Blood Ostrich.' Our characters are just as varied: for example, Ryn plays a level-headed Elven Bard with the ability to speak to animals (and is thus the only one in the party who can understand our Furry NPC, Baron von Groubenheim the Leopard King), while my boyfriend plays a middle-aged wizard named Harrie Potter who talks in third person the majority of the time. Wicz also plays a bard, but he focuses on free-style rap, which he actually performed on several occasions with much vigor. His rhymes to convince animals to help him were absolute gold.

Needless to say, it is strange. Their campaign tonight included looking for The Mayor of the City's lost cat, Mittens. Other campaigns included helping the manager of the local cathouse and asking a girl on a date for a shy guy. My DMing is a little over-the-top at times, but it seems to be entertaining for the crew, so I'm happy. <3

Speaking of roleplaying, I'm currently at [info]damned here on LJ. It's a multi-fandom Asylum sort of game, and the community is nice. I'm also glad it's fairly strict and not completely filled with crack characters (or it doesn't seem to be, at least. I don't recognize a great deal of the cast, since I'm not familiar with Bleach/Naruto/Death Note, but the ones I do know are excellent). I sort of applied on a whim- I saw an advertisement while browsing a Suikoden community, and I thought it sounded like a lot of fun. It's an extremely different game than anything I've played before. It really has been fantastic thus far, and it's nice to get back into the swing of RPing on LJ after so long. :)
